About Beyond PLM

This blog is my contribution to the community of people looking for information about Engineering and Manufacturing Software.I started this blog back in 2008 to help engineers to find information about product lifecycle management software (PLM). The original idea was to share daily ideas about innovation related to CAD, PDM, PLM. I post about everything that in my view related to CAD, PDM, PLM, Collaboration, Innovation, Data and Data Management and beyond…

About me:

I’ve been building software products for data management, engineering and manufacturing for the last 20 years. It allowed me to gather experience in diverse fields – industries, customers, technology, organization, management, communication.

I’m passionate about using technologies and building businesses that transform the way people work in engineering, manufacturing and enterprise. My biggest enjoyment moments is to see how technology is solving real customers’ problem.

At Beyond PLM, I’m consulting companies in engineering and manufacturing domain. My primarily area of focus is data and product lifecycle management strategy. It cover diverse set of topics – software vendors, products, technologies, processes. I’m also mentoring startup companies in both hardware and business software domain.

Newman Cloud is a new business I started in 2016 with the with a mission to help manufacturing companies conduct more efficient business in 21st century environment. We develop openBoM– new cloud-based bill of materials and inventory management tool for hardware startups, manufacturing, and supply chain.

At Autodesk my focus was search and data technologies. Over the course of the time in different groups I was responsible for PLM360, Vault and Search.

I co-founded Inforbix in 2010. We built cloud-based semantic search and big data tools for engineers. We pioneered a new way for engineers to solve product data problems. It was fun and a lot of work to make things happen. Autodesk acquired Inforbix technologies in 2012.

I spent 10 years working for SmarTeam, Enovia, Dassault Systems. I held various positions in R&D group and company management. I led dev teams, working with customers and partners.

At Decision System Israel I developed data management and CRM applications. My team was developing components for Professional Help Desk (PHD) startup in Stamford, CT. Sold to CA in 1998.

In early 1990s, I was working for Autodesk reseller in Israel. I created AutoCAD apps, did pre-sale, customer support and training.

one of the best sites on PLM -not one of the it is “the best site”.

  • beyondplm

    Mudumby, thank you!

  • Hi Oleg,

I am a consultant at Microsoft and our team runs the http://www.tier1onsql.com blog. We work with a number of large ISVs (many of them PLM vendors). Would you be interested in doing a guest post on our blog? If so, please contact me at v-sudk at microsoft dot com or you can DM at @tier1onsql on twitter.

    Thanks, Satya

  • Hi Oleg,

This new PDM/PLM company – PDM technology – at least I have never heard of them, is doing a demo at an Oregon Company that I implemented EPDM at, they have SolidWorks CAD.

http://www.pdmtechnologygroup.com/default.aspx – Interesting model – item based and focused on Dynamics AX- DAX – and they went with PDM/PLM – since it depends on how its configured

your thoughts on this tool? What is it about the Dutch and PDM? something in the water or perhaps the wind over there? my guess is a University professor that has a PDM/PLM program – and pumps out grad students

I used to work at a large Solidworks var selling EPDM, and now I am at Zerowait-state with Steve Porter-

    All the best,

    Steve Ammann

Steve, thanks for the comment and info sharing! I think, I’ve seen it in the past. This is so called “BlueStar” – solution relied on Dynamics AX. Best, Oleg

    Hi Oleg,

My thesis topic is very confusing. I must search different laptop case then draw sample of it in Solid or Catia. There are many laptop case components measurement. Then I’m going to collect all data. My teacher says: You collect all data and if customer want different type of laptop you wont draw it from the beginning. You enter data(for example I will change fan measurement) and your system will revise your laptop according to this. (Oyher components measurement will change and system make it automatically)(?) But how can I use plm for this? Could you help me? I am mechanical student and I dont know plm or sap.
