I’m coming to 3DEXPERIENCE World 2020 next week. It feels unusual, but also interesting and encouraging. For the last few years, I’ve been learning about the trajectory of Solidworks development, tools, data management and evolution of Solidworks data management tools from Workgroup PDM to PDM professional (Enterprise PDM) and Solidworks Manage.

Back in 2018, I posted about Dassault Systemes big dream at Solidworks World 2018. Two years later, the products and directions announced on SWW 2018 are coming into life at 3DEXPERIENCE World 2020. I need to learn to write it #3DXW20.

I’m getting ready for 3DXW20. Here are a few sessions that caught my special attention

Introduction to 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

This session introduces you to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and how you can empower collaboration, foster innovation, boost your team’s productivity and transforming ideas into reality. Imagine the possibilities IFWE collaborates in real-time at the work place and share data with each other instantly!!

In this session, you will understand the value of 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, learn all the building blocks – understand the benefits and capabilities of 3DCompass, 3DDashboard, 3DSwym, 3DDrive, and all other major elements. You will also see a few examples of how other companies are using 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and the values they are getting.

Leveraging SOLIDWORKS Data on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

In this hands-on session, we will explore the use of SOLIDWORKS desktop data on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. We will be using ENOVIAWORKS apps to Create Bill of Materials and manage data.

Attendees will gain an introductory understanding of the applications available on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform which supports an engineering design process.

Transforming BOM Management

Engineering BOM Management, synchronizing CAD product structures, complicated change management… these are now relics of the past. In this session, we introduce new unified product structure capabilities where your digital product definition is holistically authored and released to manufacturing.

Learn how BOM processes have evolved past the traditional role they have served in defining and communicating product information. Understand how companies are adopting virtual product modeling approaches to keep pace with customer demand in the age of experience.

Also, I took 7 days trial of 3DEXPERIENCE Platform for Solidworks users to explore what is available today. Dassault Systemes SOLIDWORKS gives you to try different applications such as xDesign, xShare, and ENOVIA collaborative applications.

Here are a few random screenshots of my trials.

What is my conclusion? Cloud and SaaS are transformative forces including technologies, applications and business models. 3DEXPERIENCE is a platform to make the change for Dassault Systemes. Manufacturing companies will be moving from file-based Solidworks eco-system to cloud platforms. What change it will make? Earlier this year, I published my prediction – 2030: The Point of No Return the Fax Machine I shared my view of how manufacturing will be transforming into a giant online environment connecting people, organizations and services in a big network. CAD and PLM vendors are developing platforms that will play this transformative role. But the transformation won’t happen overnight. In the next decade, we will see how manufacturing will be dropping file-based environments and moving to connected systems. How it will happen? What role each platform will play and how they communicate? These are questions CAD / PLM industry will have to answer in the next 10 years. Just my thoughts…

Best, Oleg
