I had chance to read a very interesting blog by Fracois Guillaumin related to SOA and PLM. He writes about roots of SOA and differentiation between Web Services, SaaS and SOA. This is worth reading and you can get it via this link.

What is my take?  In my view, PLM smashed some of the ideas of SOA and used them in the very marketing-oriented ways. On the other side, many of existing PLM products today use SOA in various forms. I liked few practical examples of SOA- i.e. Numbering, lifecycle, etc. SOA will not come a product. There are two levels of SOA- granular services provided by vendors and customized services developed inside of an organization. Just my thoughts…
